How to start a 0.3% retinol routine

Retinol Complex 0.3% is an evening product containing 0.3% retinol. A simple, gradual approach makes it easier to notice how your skin responds.

Keep the first routine simple

At night, cleanse gently, use the retinol product according to its label and moisturise if needed. Introduce it gradually. Avoid starting several other strong actives at the same time, and do not use two retinoid products together unless a qualified professional has advised you.

What should I do in the morning?

Cleanse and moisturise as needed, then use a broad-spectrum sunscreen as the last skincare step. Defence 50 is Helen Hunt Skin's facial SPF 50. Follow the label, reapply as directed and use shade and protective clothing when outdoors.

When should I pause or seek advice?

Stop if significant irritation develops. Avoid retinoids during pregnancy or when planning pregnancy, and ask a qualified healthcare professional if uncertain. Prescription retinoid medicines and over-the-counter cosmetic retinol products are not identical; NHS information on acne treatments is useful background, not a substitute for the directions on your product.

See the beginner routine and compare products in the retinol collection.
