How to layer skincare in a morning and evening routine

A good skincare routine is one you can follow comfortably. Product labels take priority when a formula gives specific directions, but this order is a practical starting point.

Morning order

  1. Cleanse with a product that suits your skin.
  2. Apply one chosen serum, such as C Glow for vitamin C or Revive for lightweight hyaluronic hydration.
  3. Use Vital Hydrate or another suitable moisturiser if needed.
  4. Finish with Defence 50 facial SPF, applying and reapplying according to the label.

Evening order

  1. Cleanse gently.
  2. Use a treatment appropriate for evening if needed, such as Illuminate or Retinol Complex 0.3%, following that product's directions.
  3. Finish with moisturiser if needed.

How many active products should I use?

Begin with one new active at a time. That makes it easier to notice irritation and to understand what suits your skin. Do not assume that acids, retinol and multiple high-strength serums should be combined in one routine. For a more specific sequence, see the dark spots routine, blemish-prone routine or gentle routine.
